The Wabash, Frisco, and Pacific railroad near St. Louis is recovering from the flooding that occurred earlier this month. The 12'' gauge railroad was founded in 1939 and offers train rides over more than a mile of track that runs along the scenic Meramec river.

Unfortunately, the scenic position of the right-of-way makes the railroad prone to flooding and that is what happened in late December into early January. Heavy rainfall made the river swell to over 44 feet, nearly fully submerging the roundhouse.

Several of the railroad's buildings were damaged heavily and all of the operational locomotives (3 steam and two diesel) were fully submerged and are now inoperable (They had been moved to higher ground which wasn't quite high enough). Trees were downed and parts of the mainline were washed out. It will take lots of volunteers and work to make the railroad ready to pull passengers again in May.

A "go fund me" has been created to support the railroad and get it back up on it's feet.

It's a treasured destination for many families in St. Louis. http://www.wfprr.com/
