Met the man when they had the official opening ceremonies at the Harriman Dispatching Center in Omaha. I was always impressed that he took the time the day (a Sunday, no less) to personally walk through the building and meet every single employee working that day. He could have left with Henry Kissinger (who was on the UP's board at the time) but he instead choose to meet all of us. I'm sure he may not have remembered any of us afterward, but when someone burns 2-3 hours meeting people you don't have to it says a lot about the character of the individual Can't say I ever saw any of his successors do the same. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20160213_Drew_Lewis__former_U_S__Transportation_Secretary__84.html#g3P6iro3IAhjDdm2.99 |

Drew Lewis was a great railroader and a staunch supporter of steam. He made many important contributions to the industry in the critical deregulation era and was always a complete gentleman. R.I.P. Ross Rowland |
