Post subject:  611 Test Car Data

I know last year that NS put their test car behind the 611. I assume since that data has not been released the results where not as good as advertised? Maybe I am wrong and they have been released? (I hope that is the case)

I think that data would be very interesting to see.

I am sure someone reading this has seen the data. The silence is deafning.

Don't assume anything. I saw the raw data being collected, so it does exist. It has not been completely analyzed and no conclusions have been reached....yet. It's likely that NS has other priorities in mind for research car and its crew right now. Be patient, the test data has not been forgotten, but it may be a while until its reduced and summarized. As much as anyone reading this, I'd like to know what the final results are, too!

Also recall that several of the runs were done under lousy weather conditions, there are flange oilers that weren't there when the 1945 tests were run, superelevation was generally higher in curves in 1945 than it is today, speeds weren't high enough to get onto 611's horsepower curve (there's a 40 mph restriction and it was adhered to), etc. My opinion is that when conditions were favorable, the results will be very close to the 1945 tests. The second day's WB run up Blue Ridge coming back from Lynchburg was particularly memorable. I don't recall 611 ever sounding so good, and so loud!!
