Post subject:  EMD Shunt unit rating?

Hello,
Does anyone happen to know the current/amp rating for this Shunt unit?
This is installed in a F7, and we're trying to make a modification.

EMD Part # 8084131

Thanks!

If you take it loss, you may find a rating stamped on it.

Alco locomotives have some similar to this and the rating is stamped on them.

The rating will also be on the gauge. The shunt works by giving you a ratio of current through the gauge vs through the shunt. So if your gauge has 5A printed on it and full scales at 1000 A, you can assume this is a 1000A shunt with a ratio of 1:200

If you have the electrical print for the locomotive, on the far right side of the print is a listing of all the electrical parts used on the locomotive, find the loadmeter shunt and it should list the rated current and the output.

From Page 1 of this thread:

http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39179.

Open the "Page 1 of 6" of the print for the F7A.

The schedule lists EMD 8084131 at Item Number 48 as a 1000A-100mV INDICATING METER SHUNT.

All thanks should go to Owen S. Paulsen.
