Don't think they would even attempt something like the opening segment of this video in the UK nowadays, and presumably the same in the US as well !

In the US about the closest something like this has happened were the 1987 NRHS convention (w/ the 611 and 1218) and the 1991 (w/ the 1225 and 765) one.

There also were four mainline steam engines at the 1990 convention in St. Louis.
