Post subject:  Kerosene locomotive headlight
Hi folks, I came across this old kerosene headlamp that I suspect is from a steam locomotive (this one: https://saveitforparts.wordpress.com/20 ... -railroad/).

I'm trying to find out more about it, like the approximate age and maybe a maker if anyone has a good guess. I know it's in bad shape and someone seems to have added an electric socket and wire along the way, but it has a somewhat distinctive shape. It looks a lot like the lamps on small Devenport locos (which matches where I suspect it came from).

Any help would be appreciated!

This looks like a headlight from a steam tractor. Most of them had the wooden carrying bail you see at the top of this piece.

Tim is probably right. I'd give Woody Kirkman of W.T. Kirkman Lanterns a call. He could probably help with the identification of this lamp. You may be able to find him and many other knowledgeable lamp and lantern enthusiasts over at the Tubular Lantern Collectors group on Facebook.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to look into that. As far as I know there were never any steam tractors in the area this was found, just the one small locomotive and a few internal combustion tractors and dozers (Fordson and the like). I suppose it also could have come from a boat or just been used in one of the mines or cannery. Someone suggested it could be a Star Headlamp and sent me some more information on those as well.
