Probably 4-5 years ago John Frantz clued me in on a PRR F36 at the Metso Minerals machine shop in York, PA. I was able to get in contact with the plant manager and explained my interest in the car. He told me that they were actively using the car to store large machinery parts but would keep my info on file if something changed.
Unfortunately, it did, last fall John Frantz called to let me know that, Metso decided to close down the facility in York. After some time had passed since the announcement of the closer I reached back out to the plant manager as to the disposition of the car. He explained that they were sorting through all that with the closure and in early 2016 I reached an agreement to purchase the car.
So with the usual precision of WJ Casey Trucking and Rigging of Branchburg, New Jersey, this 50’, long 6 axle, 125 ton capacity flat car was trucked back to NJ. So how do you truck a very deep angled center sill flat car, you flip it over.
Overall the car is in very good shape, I’ll need some angle cocks, restore about a foot or two of the train line. Some cut levers and vertical brake wheels, I have one need another and paint.
The Conrail number is 770506, just need to track down the PRR number. There is still some Penn Central green underneath or on top depending when you looking at it.
