Congrats to the 765 folks. I have my tickets for the Janesville trip but will miss the Galesburg trips (although I live nearby) due to another trip.

It is interesting that when the ATSF 3751 trips to Barstow and San Diego were cancelled earlier this week, some folks were bashing BNSF for ending all steam trips over their lines. It is great to see that some groups can still work well with the railroads.

An associate of mine excitedly pinged me after seeing this and asked if I wanted to do a road trip to chase this trip.

I looked at the distance between Chicago and Galesburg--roughly 200 miles--and the time to cover it. I pointed out that the start-to-stop average speed--with a station stop at Naperville--is over 57 mph.

Thus ended the chasing plans.

Then I reminded him that his could be the last chance he'd ever have to see truly high-speed steam on a fast mainline within 1000 miles of him.

Even I'm seriously debating this one.

BNSF has not put out any policy that anyone is aware of that states what you commented. The SBRHS has refuted the online claims.

With regard to BNSF and steam, MILW 261 is scheduled to pull an excursion From Minneapolis to Duluth, MN on June 4th and return to Minneapolis on the 5th.

Please note that I wasn't bashing BNSF, I was bashing the folks who were complaining that BNSF wasn't allowing steam, as that was totally false. On person apparently sent the original message out and many folks jumped on it without checking the facts. The ability for 765 and others to operate shows that BNSF will still work with those who act in a professional manner.
