An article on a caboose up for auction in Ithaca, NY:

http://www.ithacajournal.com/story/news ... /82938116/

.... led me to speculate that it was likely NYC wooden caboose 18385, formerly on display at the Station Restaurant down Taughannock Boulevard at the station at Buffalo St. along with some coaches and Solvay Process Co. 0-4-0T #63.

Then I saw this:

Note the photo slide show. Different (end-cupola) wooden caboose. Photos from 2008. Google Earth comfirms still there as of late 2015. Apparently never mentioned here before.

This leads to an obvious question or two:

1) where did this park caboose up for auction--NOT listed in Captive Cabeese--come from? And where did it go, if anywhere?

2) Any story behind the fleet down at the LV station? Should they be preserved elsewhere? Beyond hope?

The caboose up for auction is former N&W and was donated in the early 1970's by the N&W to the Elmira Psyche Center. I have a copy of the newspaper article that was printed when it had arrived in Elmira. About 15 years ago it went "to a park in Ithaca" and it was only recently that I knew which park it was at.

The other equipment at the Ithaca station is in good condition and is in good hands as of now with the bank. I was granted a tour of the cars in 2008 and everything was well taken care of.
