I look forward to seeing these posts. I wish I lived closer to Strasburg. This satisfies my need to see good machining work done and repairs to steam locomotives. Excellent! |

Did you have to compensate in the size of the counterweights when going from cast iron to steel? |

Kelley, have you tried Danko Arlington in Baltimore for bronze casting. They are one of those old time foundries that have been in business for a long time. I did a lot of work with them years ago and always found their work to be excellent. I always worked with John Danko and Brad Prue and would recommend talking to them if have not done so already. |

Nice to see some young kids working in your shop learning these almost-obsolete skills and tricks of the trade. |

I notice on the new wheels that there is no way to add or subtract lead weight to the counterweights. Is that an original design feature or something deemed unnecessary due to size and maximum revolution speed? If the later, is there an unspoken standard about when fixed vs. changeable counterweights should be used based on wheel diameter? |

It almost sounds like part of the shops expansion might have to be in the form of a bronze foundry in the future. Excellent workmanship going on in the Strasburg Shop!! |

I can't express how happy it makes me to know that Strasburg is not only 1 hours drive from my home but also they help keep steam loco's running all across the country. |

If you're visiting Strasburg, I highly recommend signing up for the shop tour. It will be the highlight of your day. (Even the RMPA collection across the street seemed underwhelming in comparison.) -Philip Marshall |
