Would anyone have a schematic for a GE 44 ton with a 1984 USN upgrade to 855 L1 engines and EMD control stand? This locomotive still has the 733 traction motors and 5GT 569 main generators. Thank-you in advance. |

Sure it's not a 45-tonner? I thought that the DoD-rebuilt 44-tonners all got CAT 3306's as opposed to Cummins. The 855 L1 is a common replacement for the old Cummins HBI600's that originally came in the 45- and 50-tonners. That being said, I'd love to see the schematic for making an AAR stand work with an 855 fuel pump/governor setup. |

Right now its a 22 tonner! may have been a 45 originally. The fuel pump and throttle control from the stand is through 4 solenoids that open ports in a fuel rail that supplies the inlet port on the PT pump, the inlet port is in place of the manual shaft throttle. Attachment:

Looking at the PDF, it appears that it's a turbo 855L1. That would indicate a 65- or 80-tonner. The 65 looks just like a 44. The 45-tonners got the naturally aspirated 855's. PDF indicates that this setup can be used on "any turbo 855". Wonder if it can be modified for use in a non-turbo. Sorry to be providing more questions than answers, but it's an interesting topic. |

Its a 44 tonner, (USMC 152408, serial# 15768, blt 3/1943); the reduced weight because of the newer, lighter engines now is 78,000 lb. The engines are naturally aspirated. The solenoids actually do open in the order that is listed in the pdf. Throttle 2 energizes Solenoid 1 for 25% horsepower, throttle 3 energizes solenoids 1-2 for 50% horsepower, and so on. |

Excellent! Do you by any chance have the DoD Field Manual for it? I have the one for the 44-tonners as originally constituted with the D17000 CAT, but not the one for the remanufactured version. I'd be interested to see the detailed schematic, if you find one. |
