Will the East Broad Top be having a special event this fall? I thought I had read about a Railfan Spectacular in October, but cannot locate any information on it. I even e-mailed the contact at the FEBT with no response.

Can anyone here provide any details of this event? i.e. what activities will there be? shop tours, photo freights, ticket prices, etc?

It happens every October on Columbus Day weekend. The RR hasn't set the exact scedule and prices yet, but there will be Shop Tours hosted by the FEBT. Also usually twilight trains, M-1 gas-mechanical doodlebug runs, and mixed trains.

Which reminds me about #15. Last I heard EBT was working on #15 to have it back together before the Fall Spectacular. Any news on how they're doing?

I was at the EBT on August 16th. I took my son there to ride the trip the way my parents had taken me there in the early 1960's. Only #14 was running. One of the senior conductors told me that #15 was being restored but they had found more problems on the locomotive than they expected. He told me it would not be ready for October and they were hoping for next spring. He also told me that the increased costs of insurance could cause the line to shut down at any time. If the #14 goes down, they would also shut down operations for this season and maybe beyond. He told me that stories on the internet had been hurting the RR. He told me that he is a full time employee and works as a bookeeper during the week. Get out to the EBT now!! Who knows how long it may be there.

Thanks. I was hoping to hear that #15 would be ready, but I'll be there on the 12th and 13th in any case. I was there on opening weekend and got some great shots of #14 in the yards.

I would like to thank the individual who posted this information. It is true and very accurate. As for the Fall Spectacular, our General Manager, Stanley Hall is planning the Spectacular and will do his best to put on a well balanced show. As you know it will be difficult to do with one steam locomotive. However, do not let that keep you from attending. A strong turn out will only confirm to the Management that there are many out in the world that do care about the EBT and wish to support it. As usual we will have the Saturday night trips along with Shop tours and possible tour of the Roundhouse and a discussion of what has been done to the #15 and what remains to be done.
Please bear with us and hopefully next week information on the Spectacular will be released.
Thanks
