This short line was still in steam in the 1980s. I wonder if this locomotive is still around some place? She is a 2-4-2 by H.K. Porter in 1946. And ex Central Illinois Public Service Co. She was owned at one time by the Mid Continent Railway Museum. There was an article in the Railfan & Railroad in the July 1980 issue. Ted66 |

Yes it is around and there have been a few short threads about it. Unfortunately I do not recall where it is now. But yes is still exists and pretty much as she looked at Crab Orchard if not mistaken. Did you try google? Or search here on the site? Have not tried using the search here very often myself and usually don't have much luck, but am a dinosaur so I may not be using it correctly. Regards, John. |

I created a topic on #5 titled St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern 2-4-2 #5 "Shelby Brown" on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. #5 is still around, and, at this current time, the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway is still trying to raise funds to restore #5 into operation. They've already gotten started with ultrasounding the boiler, and they've started some work on the tender, but they could definitely use more funding/donations to ensure that #5 will be able to run again. Personally, I think we have had enough of a steam hiatus in Missouri. The last (standard-gauge) steam locomotives that have come through Missouri were UP #844 & NKP #765 in 2012, and the last (standard-gauge) steam locomotive that operated out of Missouri was Frisco #1522 (and she was mothballed in 2002). (Please correct me if I have missed something.) I really hope #5 is able to run again some time in the near future. Let's give the ol' girl another chance at life, and let's keep the 2nd age of steam revival going. https://www.facebook.com/stlimrr/ http://www.slimrr.com/5/ https://www.gofundme.com/bqqm572k [Disclaimer: I'm not associated with the St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railway, nor do I speak for them. I'm just a huge steam enthusiast in Missouri with a personal connection to this locomotive.] |

That engine was built as a 2-4-2T and converted to a tender locomotive by the Crab Orchard and Egyptian. |
