Post subject:  Santa Fe box car

I was doing research on a box car that we had been given for storage.
The only thing I could find was that the bearings on 1 corner had been repacked by the ATSF in 63. The rest of the paint on the outside was GONE. The inside is in good shape for the age. The only numbers that I could find was ATSF 40981. This number was on both sides near the top to the left of the door. Any help about the age and who may have made the car would be great.
Thanks for the help.

I found photos of ATSF 40992, 11 above 40981, does this look like your car?

Looks like outside braced wood sides, and does it say Bx6, which would be: Bx-3,-6 40'emp., sectional wd. sh., stl. cnds/drs. 1923,-25 5,000

Sounds plausible if that car looks like the one you have. Or it may be way off if your number and what I see on the side of this car are off.
