A reader tipped me off to the Inland Northwest Rail Museum operation... I'm still trying to gather facts, but I am told they were once located at a fairgrounds in Spokane, Wash., and recently relocated to Reardan, Wash., and a half hour west. The town has welcomed them with open arms, and a new facility has been built to house the museum. A "hospital train" move was made on August 26 by the Eastern Washington Gateway Railroad, so I imagine the new museum has a connection to the outside world. Ribbon-cutting was August 27! Wow, this museum seems to be flying under the radar. I'd heard of it through the trolley they were restoring but didn't realize the size and scope of it. That's a dang impressive hospital train giving one the ability to see most of their collection at one time. Hope the steamer bearings get fixed and it makes it to the museum without any further problems. This is very exciting news and I wish them the best. |

They're not real well known outside of the local area. They did have a lot of visitors at the fair location, so locals were pretty aware of them. I happened across the still under construction museum in Rearden, WA a few months ago. It's an impressive building, and a nice site as well, if on a bit of a grade. They already had quite a bit of equipment on site, stuff that was most likely trucked in due to age/construction etc. To be honest, I'm not sure where they're going to put all of the new stuff, going to be pretty tight in there when they're done I'm guessing. Yes, they do have a connection to the outside world, and it appears like it will be permanent. No idea what future plans they have. It will be interesting to watch them grow and develop. |
