After a little research I've noticed that several of the cars used on the AFT were scrapped and 1995 seems to be a common year. Were the all scrapped en masse in one spot, or was it a coincidence that many of them went at the same time?
Thanks,
Al Reibel

Apparently, many of the cars were purchased by the Union Pacific Railroad after their use by the Canadians for a similar train. They sat near Las Vegas, NV for quite some time. Finally, I guess they decided they didn't need them and decided to scrap most of the cars.

I'm sure you've seen this website: http://www.freedomtrain.org/american-fr ... n-home.htm

It has a lot of history about the equipment.

Thanks!
The Freedom Train website you listed is where I noticed them all going at once- I think there were 13 scrapped in 1995 and a few others with no dates. I guess I assumed that some of the display cars would have been preserved, I evidently got that wrong!
I was lucky enough to see it (behind 2101) in Bethlehem PA in August of '76, I recently found my old ticket stub at my parent's house and it rekindled my interest.

Hi,

I recall seeing the AFT stationary at a disused USAF base here in Atlanta. The Airbase was later used as a storage site for trailer homes for emergency needs for Tornado victims. The USAF runway flight paths were in conflict with Hartsfield Airport.

I recall a lot about the outside of the train on display but darned I do not recall the inside at all. I thought i would have been sure to recall the moving sidewalks.

Thanks for the internet page. It did stir up happy memories.

If memory serves, many of those cars were damaged in a switching incident...
