I haven't seen this mentioned on US boards yet, but the National Railway Museum has released a schedule for the return of the "Flying Scotsman." There are test trips in "black undercoat" scheduled for January and then a busy rest of the year for her in Brisitsh Rail green.

The drama around this restoration has been intense. It is good to see it coming to a happy conclusion. She'll regain her title as (arguably) the most famous operating steam locomotive In the world.

Correction:

LNER 4472.

True, it was technically Great Northern Railway 1472 for the first eleven months of its existence in 1923, but.........

Though on their website, they're advertising it as 60103, its post-war number.

Actually, post-WW2/Gresley it was renumbered to 502 for four months, then 103.

60103 is the number it got post-1948 nationalisation.

Great to hear!

LNER equiped many express locomotives with corridor tenders. There is a crew change example in this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_OFGNFWksw).

State side the Milwaukee Road class A 4-4-2's had corridor tenders. (http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/milw2b.jpg)

First mainline trip is suggested to be on 27th February 2016.

It will be open to fare-paying passengers as well as invited ViP's, though anyone wanting to travel may have to have very deep pockets...!!

Actually, 502 on one side, 103 on the other, and 60103 on the smokebox.

Yes, all are numbers she wore at one point or another.

BBC report on todays (US$700 a head) run...............

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-yo ... e-35653416

Certainly looks nice in early 1960's BR condition, but after spending the best part of US$7 million on restoring it, one would hope it does!

For those who like eye-wateringly large sums of money, the latest edition of the UK Steam Railway Magazine is quoting the NRM as spending a total of £6.8 Million on buying and putting Scotsman back into running order - thats US$8.7 Million at todays awful exchange rate.......
It cost £2.31 Million to buy and £4.5 Million to restore - the restoration costs alone being more than a New Build" A3 would have most probably cost!

Looking at the result (it keeps selling out and drawin thousands to see her), it seems like money well spent. There aren't many locomotives you could sell for £2.3 million in a condition requiring £4.5 of work. It is, arguably, the most famous locomotive in the world with appeal far beyond the railfan community.
