FWRHS (NKP 765) has acquired the two truck 50 ton(?) locomotive that was at the east end of Delaware, Ohio, in recent years. The late Carl Nourse, a local auto dealer, had a big toy train collection in the former NYC(?) depot along with Frisco business car FRISCO, a Santa Fe pre-war Budd coach and an Illinois Central 1942 Panama Limited diner that went to Iowa Pacific. FWRHS has moved the locomotive to the CASAD SHOP, New Haven, IN and with a lot of TLC, gotten it operating again. It is now a back-up for WHITCOMB NO. 1231, former US Government, that was used in the adjoining CASAD DEPOT. FWRHS has still not found anything about its build date, serial number, and previous owners and locations of the PLYMOUTH. George Silcott Ry Equipment of Worthington, Ohio may have sold it to Mr. Nourse. Can anybody help with this mystery? |

That would be a Model DE Plymouth, could be 45 or 50 tons and most likely Westinghouse electrical equipment (although a few had GE). I don't know for certain if this applies to the Model DE, but other Plymouth models with welded frames almost always had the 4 digit serial number stamped on the frame above the coupler pocket on the nominal rear end of the loco--could be either end in this case. If it's there it'd likely be buried under multiple coats of paint. Good luck. The builder's plate of the DE was the usual 3x5" sheet brass example, mounted on the instrument panel or sometimes above the cab windows inside the cab. |
