I wonder if anyone has any leads on New York Central's "Pacemaker Green". This is a dark green, near brown, but not quite Pullman Green. The pictures I have seen place it as lighter than Pullman Green by a bit. |

George Rust data base indicates it was Duco 254, color 30697. Might be available in some other DuPont paint system. |

I have seen a reference to du Pont #83-D39527 being the code for Pacemaker Green, but the actual wording did not make it clear that Pacemaker Green was as distinct from Pullman Green as I believe it to be. |

The New York Central Historical Society did some research based on original DuPont samples and published the info on their site. I don't know how accurate the Sherwin Williams spectographic scans are but it's a start. If you get an accurate color code in the paint system you don't want to use get a quart or so mixed up and paint a test piece. Then get that scanned and made up in the paint system you want to use. That's how many in the old car hobby get original colors in newer paint systems. Do remember that primer color will affect final color, especially lighter ones. |

The more typical way to get a perfect match to a chip from the old car, as the joke goes, is to get a brushful of one of those almost-but-not-quite-perfect mixes, have another shop employee distract the owner, and paint the chip............. |

Scroll down to the "BREAKING NEWS"... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44048&start=75 That post dealt with Century Green. So, the question remains: How do you tie Pacemaker Green to Ditzler 40126? Do not tell me “by looking at old photos on my computer” cuz that just don’t fly. Documentation please… Most of these coatings are incredibly expensive compared to latex house paint. If you state as fact that Ditzler 40126 is Pacemaker Green and someone gets a sample made, or worse a couple gallons, and it’s not even close, that’s a lot of wasted money. |

Now that I'm all straightened out on my New York Central greens, WE5687 would be the General Motors Code for Century Green...

Thank you. That’s what I mean by some form of documentation. I can add that to the cross reference. The good-ish news is that PPG can still use that number as a close starting point. Since pigments changed away from heavy metals, the proportions of pigments will like lead to slightly different results so a comparative sample will be needed for an exact match. Going back to the OP, was this resolved in the meantime? |

You're quite welcome, Eric. I just hope the OP is still around to answer your question. This thread is eight years old, you know. LOL After looking around a bit, NYC Pacemaker Green appears to be very similar to the Canadian National's olive green which, in turn, appears to be very similar to Bell Telephone Green but I'll save that sort of speculation for my Reading thread. BTW, there's a New, York, Chicago, St. Louis R.R. Blue listing in that picture also, 10926. |
