Below is a link to some info about this engine that J. David posted here a couple weeks ago. The photo is one of mine from parkengines.railfan.net, taken about 5 years ago. I'm hoping to get back out there one of these days for some updated shots. She has weathered a lot in the last 5 years.

With an appearance like that, I expect many of us are suffering some Sturm und Drang for her. Methinks the pilot needs to go to, as I can't imagine anybody ever ginned up something like that for a six coupled. Yikes! I hate to sound like a fuddy duddy, but at least Thomas is getting the kids interested. Is that? Who came up with the idea that a locomotive was not digestible by the general public without such frippery anyway?

When I spoke with the owner a few years back, he seemed to be under the impression that all steam locomotives used to look like that, but then they had to take the stacks off to fit under bridges. What I don't get is, if they really think they're making the engine more attractive by going for the Disney-esque "Wild West" look, why paint the thing black?

Now that she's starting to look a little rough around the edges, it seems like a good opportunity for a group of volunteers to offer to give her a more authentic make-over.
