Florida East Coast 0-8-0 #253 will be moving from its present location in Ft. Pierce, FL. The plot of land that the locomotive and other equipment occupies is owned by the city and is slated for development. Reportedly, the Steam Locomotive 253 Association has reached an agreement with U.S. Sugar in Clewiston to store their collection on the sugar company's trackage. |

#253 was moved on its own wheels from her home of eight years today, along with the association's wrecking crane and other equipment. Photos courtesy of Jim Kovalsky.

Most of the equipment looks to be in very nice shape. Hope they can find a good and permanent home soon. |

Can anyone report for sure if active work towards the operational restoration continues or not on FEC 253? There had been an initial flurry of activity, but then I thought I read that the original driving force behind the work had taken ill or passed away. A fair amount of boiler work had been done but not sure how much remains or if there plans are still for a new Form 4 and eventual operation. Just curious. Wish them the best and hope the new home at U.S. Sugar proves beneficial and fruitful for them. Rob Gardner |
