In the some areal views of Toledo in there is still what appears to be a Wheeling and Lake Erie turntable in place, or at least it was adjacent to the W&LE line. In others it is now gone, so apparently it was removed recently.

Based on aerials, it appears it was removed sometime during the summer of 2014. What happened to it? Dunno. Haven't heard anyone mention it.

Both Akron and Brewster turntables are still in use.

I believe the table in Akron was originally Akron, Canton and Youngstown rather than W&LE.

A rigging company looked under that table 2-3 years ago, It was "wasted", that is it was so rusted out that they weren't even sure that it could be lifted out without extraordinary measures. NS was going to sell it to a salvage company and have the rest of the unusued buildings razed and leveled. Apparently they did.

It's kind of weird. If you go to the google map, and then click "3D off", you can see a more recent view. Click back and forth to compare.

The buildings are still there. They took the table and a few of the approach and house tracks. Everything else seems to be the same. Seems like a lot of work for not a lot of metal, but I suppose it's worth something.

Yes, that is true. Brittain Yard was the main yard for the AC&Y and the turntable did have a roundhouse at one time. The AC&Y Dieselized early with FMs, and later a few ALCOs. There are photos existing of NKP 765 being turned there in the 1980's. It's a relatively short table (like 80' or so, Tom D. help me out on this) since the biggest steam locos they had were the Class R 2-8-2's, so I believe that when RDG 2102 ran there in 1971 they had to take it out to the junction with the original W&LE at Mogadore to turn it.

NKP 765 turned on the Akron AC&Y turntable in the 80's. It had to be at least a 90 foot table as the 765 has a wheelbase of 89 feet.

The AC&Y turntable at Brittain Yard in East Akron was originally installed in 1911-12 with a length of 75 feet. This was adequate for all AC&Y locos, including 2-8-2's 400-406, until the mid 1940's when AC&Y purchased four NKP H-6 2-8-2's with 13,000 gallon tenders, which required a longer turntable. A new 90' turntable was installed in 1945-46, which explains the ability to turn 765, with her 89' wheelbase. This is documented on Pp. 20-21 of Morning Sun's AC&Y book, published in 2015.

I understand the Brittain turntable is intact, but I have heard conflicting information as to whether it is still functional as a turntable.

Another slight correction to Paul's comments: He said AC&Y dieselized with F-M and later Alco products. He got the order wrong, but that's certainly no great crime. AC&Y's first diesels were Alco S-2 D-1 (later 101) and Alco RS-1 D-2 (later 102), built in 1942 and 1945 respectively. The road soon made a decision in favor of dieselization, and was inclined to continue to buy from Alco, but they continued to buy second-hand Mikes from NKP instead because Alco was swamped with orders and couldn't fill their orders. Representatives of AC&Y and P&WV attended the postwar Atlantic City show where Fairbanks Morse was showing off their new line. Both roads were impressed with the 2,000 h.p. H20-44, and committed to purchasing that model. F-M sweetened the deal by helping AC&Y with the design of their new diesel shop, specifically designed with F-M requirements in mind. UP bought the first H20-44's, but AC&Y and P&WV were close behind. AC&Y H20-44's 500-503 arrived in January and February, 1948, heralding the beginning of AC&Y mainline dieselization. The last AC&Y steam engines (0-8-0 37 and 2-8-2's 402-403) were retired in 1955. Unfortunately, no AC&Y steam locomotives were preserved; but AC&Y's ex-NKP 4-6-0 304 had been sold to the Dansville & Mount Morris many years before, and now exists in poor, unrestored condition at Steamtown.

I stand corrected Tom, thanks. Table still intact as of Saturday, with just about all of the commemorative WE units nearby (AC&Y, P&WV and the "Kodachrome" red and yellow 2662. The Ohio Bicentennial unit was working the yard earlier in the day).
