Should we take bets on how many times they mention PTC and other non-field tested solutions `that are ready to use', that `Industry refuses to spend money on implementing'? I am going to say 50 mentions of technologies that have never been tested successfully outside controlled conditions. Rich C. |

My money is on human error and human frailty. These are not always the same thing. One of the biggest crashes in this aria in a long time happened because both crew members on one train fell asleep. The dispatcher in Seattle could see what was going to happen but couldn't stop it. The one in New Jersey last year was due to undiagnosed narcolepsy. One involving an Amtrak train quite a while ago was due to an engineer being high. The fireball in Quebec was caused by a one man crew not putting on enough hand breaks. When the unattended locomotives caught fire the fire department shut down the engine and the air bled off. |

Back in the 1970's on an unnamed railroad, folks would figure out what really happened, then negotiate as to who could survive the political hit. Brian |

It was about as much as I expected. At least they did their homework and didn't spout a bunch of half truths and outright lies. I wasn't yelling at the TV at least. |
