Rumor has it ex-IRCA 40 (also known as Colorado Central 40) is going back to the loop. It has been moved to the loading track at the CRRM.

Also, the museum will be running both 346 and 491, additionally they will also be double heading on Saturday. 491 will also run tomorrow (Friday). No word if they are double heading on Friday.

A bear maybe, but man she is cute. Is the valve gear an add on arrangement? The top cyl looks different? Regards, John.

Tails,

Thanks for the picture. One of the employees posted the same picture on the ngdiscussion.

Note the ex D&S center cab No. 9 behind the 40.

John,

The valve gear was originally slide valves. I believe Baldwin offered a piston valve kit. So the IRCA changed them over.

Hope this helps,

Built as standard export with Stephenson gear, slide valves and saturated. Upgraded and tweaked out with superheaters, piston valves (outside admission) and Walschaert gear by ICRA. She'll sure run and steams pretty well if she hasn't changed much since I knew her. I think it's the outside admission that makes the valves act like cylinders and push back when you try to hook her up running. Inside admission doesn't have higher pressure on one side or the other during an admission cycle.

What is IRCA? The Immigration Reform and Control Act is responsible for the alterations?

IRCA: International Railways of Central America

In Spanish: Ferrocarriles Internacionales de Centro America, abbreviated FIdeCA.

Cody You get a gold star for knowing this stuff. When I was your age, there really WAS an FIdeCA, and books like Gerald Best's Central American Holiday were what I used instead of tourist area travel brochures...

Thanks Sammy, I really like studying about narrow gauge railroads and steam locomotives...

Currently I am studying the FRA 49 CFR Part 230, and GCOR (General Code of Operating Rules). Something that I think will benefit me in the future.

Thanks,
Cody Muse
