The following was posted to the Rock Island list by the Manly Junction RR Museum founder.

PS. I deleted personal information from the message below. Hopefully there is sufficient information should anyone wish to contact these folks.

Contributions needed for Rock Island E Units restoration.

Mid-American has been very patient with me by storing the two Rock Island E units (E-6 #630 and E-8 #652) for some time. They need room for other business now so we have to get the project going. Cosmetic restoration and FRA compliance is to be done to each unit starting soon. The cost will be just under $125,000 for each unit and the project must be paid in full by end of June. We will be applying for various grant funds, but really need some assistance in raising the necessary money for this project. Contributions are tax deductible.

Work continues on these 2 at Mid-America. #652 has been repainted and the Farr grilles have been reapplied. Update from photo (taken at night) posted to Flickr by Jeff Carlson: https://www.flickr.com/photos/47104480@N07/32488953196/

Mr. Carlson states in his comments that the 652 now wears the "corrected" paint scheme. I can only see the nose of the unit, but it appears to be wearing one of the Rock Island's later "simplified" paint schemes. Those schemes omitted the lighter red band down the center body of the unit along with other changes, and the paint on the nose was quite different. The first two photos in this thread weren't necessarily incorrect just an effort to show the original paint scheme of the units.

This was posted on the Remembering the Rock Island Facebook closed group January 19, apparently Mid-America used a paint schematic dating from the unit's order but that changed when the unit was initially painted, and the stripes were off, but that has been remedied.

Very nice! Here's a Marty Bernard photo of sister E8 #644 wearing a most similar version of this paint scheme:

Number 652 still needs the Rock Island herald on the nose, but outside of that, a most beautiful job!

I loved the red/silver/orange colors #652 was restored into in the early '90s. Were they inaccurate? I've been wondering why the new owner chose this simplified scheme, but if #652 never wore the other colors in service, that makes sense.

A google search revealed this photo from late 2016 showing the mistakes that were made with the striping/lettering which have since been corrected.

Now let's see if they restore the two 567s (preferred) instead of gutting it and making it into an E38-2 or whatever UPs became, with a single 645 and updated electricals.

I remember seeing the 630 having it's wheels turned at the Proviso Ramp when she was owned by Glenn M. He was an EMD field rep. with C&NW being one of his customers . Of course that came with advantages . This was a long time ago.

When did Glenn Monhart own RI 630?

630 was donated to the Smokey Hill Railway Museum in Kansas City by the RI a few months before the shutdown. It was given some minor maintenance at the 47th "Rocket House" in Chicago and shipped DIT to Armourdale in KC.

I think he has the Rock E6 confused with the Atlantic Coast Line E3A.
