Interesting to meet a couple of forumites today on their way to St Louis.. Shout out to you guy's, sorry we didnt get a chance to exchange names and a longer chat. We have been busy removing the old rotten walkway from the side of the tender and replacing it with new steel. While this was being done, the vestibule roof was removed and new steel replaced followed by primer and paint...

So pleased to see the 6069 rtaining a great finish, and looking like she's ready for steam. Question regarding the maple leaf decal on the tender. When did CNR begin the "classy" design, and to which steamers were they applied? Was there a rule, or just post shopping after a designated year? |

Maple Leaf circular herald was adopted by CNR in 1954. It replaced the "tilted wafer" on passenger cars and steam locomotive tenders. Of course, not every piece of equipment was re-lettered all at once. Howard P. |

Thanks Richard, Next up is replacement of the cab floor. Howard, originally she had the angled wafer logo but this was replaced when she came to town. |

Richard, I think the Maple Leaf Herald was intended for passenger (steam) locomotives, and the square was kept on for freight (steam) locomotives. However in On Nov. 9, 1954, the drawing for the square herald was changed, stating that the herald was to be applied at 90 degrees, from the previous 9 degrees. That is why you will see many CN steam locomotives still sporting the square herald (levelled) throughout the late 1950s. |

One of the fascinating details of passenger versus freight locomotives in the steam era. Thanks, everyone, for elucidating the story. I love Canadian steam locomotives! |

Hi Folk's, does anyone have a correct male connection for the plug you see on the back of the cab? We have the female connection still in place on the cab wall but the male end and cable were lost

Peter, check with Crouse-Hinds. Funny enough I just connected the same fitting on 6213 after we reconnected the tender a few weekends ago. It has 4 pins and there should be a key or a groove on the plug that mates with either a key or groove on the receptacle. I'll be back down at 6213 in the next few days, so I'll try and check if there is a Crouse-Hinds part number. |

| Post subject: | Engine-Tender Electrical Connections | ||||
Peter: I passed by 6213 to see what she uses for the engine-tender electrical connection. Now as I mentioned before it is a Crouse-Hinds product, which I suspect may not be an original fitting. I pulled out my CNR Electrical Equipment list (Dwg#3H-18576) and it calls for Pyle-National fittings for the engine-tender plug and receptacle. Plugs: -Pyle-National #BP-15 (2 Pole Plug) -Pyle-National #BP-45 (3 Pole Plug) Receptacles: -Pyle-National #BRBB-22 (2 Pole Receptacle) -Pyle-National #BRBB-23 (3 Pole Receptacle) 6069 will require a 3 pole plug and receptacle. Now since anything Pyle-National is impossible to find, you'll likely have to replace the receptacle as well as the plug. 6213 uses Crouse-Hinds equipment, and I tried to note some of the part numbers. The box on the back of the cab is C-H part #ARE 33. The plug and receptacle (with the spring door) are of the 4-pole, 3-wire variety, but of course the part number on the plug was covered in paint. It should be pretty straight forward to find at least a similar part in their catalog, and it is probably from their "Arktite" line of plugs and receptacles. (I think I see the name "Arktite just under the paint, to boot). http://www.cooperindustries.com/content/public/en/crouse-hinds/products/plugs_receptacles/industrial_plugsreceptacles-nonhazardous/aluminum/arktite_apj_apr_arandareseries30aplugsreceptaclesandconnectors.html Here are a few photos.
