Fresh from a $70,000+ cosmetic restoration, on Saturday, 9/28 the PP&L Heisler fireless cooker No. 4094-D was dedicated in Rolling Stock Hall, at the RR Museum of PA in Strasburg. Based on paint anaylsis and archival research the RRMPA Restoration Shop backdated the engine to its early 1940s appearance of blue with silver lettering and striping. Even the original side rods (which were found at the Strasburg RR a few years back, remnants of its 1972 unloading) are back on. She now gleams ploudly on Track 1 siding in RSH. Also fresh from the restoration shop is the C&PA Russell snowplow, now displayed on track 4 in front of H6sb No. 2846. The plow was turned to face the roll-up door to ward off potential youngsters who might feel compelled to "skateboard" (so to speak) up the wedge. To avoid fouling the concrete platform, the plow was raised on a second row of rail and has proved highly effective. Currently underway is the abatement and cosmetic restoration of PRR E6s 4-4-2 No. 460 and repainting of the AC&F three-dome tank car. An historic ex-PRR 1850s Haupt truss bridge from Ronks, Pa., arrived last week and was unloaded today in the parking lot of the Museum. Hats off to Al Martin and his crew who do a superb job every time. Dull museum? Never! Always something new to see and do at Strasburg. http://rrmuseumpa.org |
