Somewhere on the web recently, I saw a photo of the restored NYC observation "Hickory Creek". When I saw this car at the Black River & Western RR in 1999, it was one of the saddest looking passenger cars I'd ever seen, with huge rust holes in the sides. At that time, I frankly doubted it would survive. Perhaps a reader can lead us to that photo again, for the amazing transformation. The story, from Flimsies, is at the link below. Although I have not seen the car in person, I too was amazed at the transformation myself and very happy to see my now former NJ colleagues doing such great work! I was born & raised in NJ, but am now a Rochester, NY resident. For more info, you may want to check out the United Railway Historical Societies' website. The URHS is the car's owner and is an amalgamation of most of the railroad historical societies in New Jersey. Link below. Hickory Creek news on the URHS website crhauf@frontiernet.net |
