Post subject:  McKeen Motor Car Trailer

I was recently told by a friend that he remembered seeing a McKeen motor car trailer (or what appeared to be one) rusting away in the back lot of a mid-western railroad museum. Unfortunately, he can't remember which museum. Anyone have any ideas where it might be? Or if it's really a McKeen? Thanks in advance for any info on it.

Sevral years ago, there was the carbody of one of the McKeen trailers in a backyard at Birdwood, Nebraska. Don't know if it was acquired by a museum or if it is still there.

I think he may be talking about our McKeen motor car trailer, ex-Union Pacific, at IRM. It lacks trucks, but the body is reasonably intact.

I'm sure that's the one. He said he thought maybe it was at IRM, but as I've somehow never seen it, I told him I didn't think IRM had one. I now know that I was wrong. I'll have to go check it out. Where's it stored at?

It's been alongside the back (east) end of Yard 5, just off Central Avenue, though I believe I heard that it might be moving into the Electric Car Shop in Barn 4.

In 1975 I saw one in a scrap yard in Archorage Alaska. Any information?

How many McKeen cars (Motor cars or trailers) still exist? Were there very many built? What railroads purchased them? Thanks in advance for any info.

I understand that an organization in Alaska has acquired the car. The Nevada State RR Museum was interested in obtaining the body for parts for their restoration of the ex-V&T McKeen car. But, it was acquired by the local Alaska group before NSRM could act.
