Post subject:  End of steam dates?

Lloyd Stagner's recent book "Steam Finale 1954-1970" documents the last days of steam starting in 1954. His introduction says that roughly half of all North American RRs were all-diesel before 1954. I believe that Stagner published some "last of steam" articles previously. There was also an article in Trains magazine years ago (by Stagner?).

Does anyone have more information?
Thanks!

A few years ago, the NRHS Bulletin published an issue that discussed when steam last ran on each of the major railroads in the US.

For information on getting a back issue, E-mail
