GMD 1001 demo unit A1597 12/56 was preserved and is presently at the Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa, Ontario. It is NOT on display unfortunately; it is in storage like a lot of other equipment such as 1201.

Two are in service on the Central Columbiana & Pennsylnania RR (CQPA), the former Y&S RR.

The 1989 ARM convention did an Alberta tour that visited a site that had a CPR diesel-hydraulic, in the Calgary area I believe. Perhaps an Albertan can clarify.

Those are GMD-1's. GMDH-1's are center-cab diesel hydraulic switchers. I believe only four of these were built.
