I need to patch some moderately large cracks (and fill a few holes) in a concrete floor inside a passenger car. The existing floor is the usual "lightweight" concrete type material commonly found in railcar floors. I've done this before with smaller cracks by using fix-all or a floor leveling compound, but I thought I'd tap into the network for other remedies people have employed. The floor will be painted, but not covered with anything else. I recall that someone had been advertising a product in Private Varnish (I believe) for reworking concrete floors in passenger cars. Needing to remedy the same situation in regards to my car, I have been given the following advice. One can replace the affected areas with the "bagged" concrete you can pick up from Lowes or Home Depot. Has anybody tried this? I know locally a gentleman replaced an entire concrete floor in a caboose. I believe he called a local Ready Mix and must have put the shoot through the door. Regards, Gerald W. If the substrate is sound and the patch small, I have had good luck with vinyl concrete patching mix from the local Home Depot. I think it may have a little give in it due to its plastic binder. Dave irondave@bellsouth.net |

The original material is still available from the original manufacturer. The only problem is, I don't have my files with that information with me and I can't for the life of me remember the exact name. But I think it is something like Tucolith and I think the company is known as E.H. O'Neil. They are back in New England somewhere. The product I've been using is Magnaflor-R by the E.H. O'Neill Co. 1405 Chippendale Rd Lutherville, MD 21093 410-560-2244 I have not used this for patching cracks, etc. We have used it for replacing large sections of floor. It is an interesting product to work with, but seems to work well in this application. They are nice to deal with and will gladly answer your questions. For patching, I once used a two-part epoxy material from the Pioneer Randustrial Co. I can't remember the exact product, but the telephone number is 1-800-877-1500.
