For those curious how 700 is doing in the "wilds" of Montana. She's doing great, covering Sandpoint to Missoula in 5 1/2 hours running time (excluding a hour service stop in Paradise). She left Missoula at 8 am and was running track speed (60-70mph) at Drummond (45 miles east) when I gave up the chase. Yes, today they are using MRL F-45 392 somewhat. It takes away from the stack talk, but it is conserving the engine, fuel and water (and since there are no water stops on the run from Missoula to Helena, that's not a bad idea). What A Show! And I can see it again next week (westbound Billings-Sandpoint). Michael Seitz Missoula MT Montana by Steam mikefrommontana@juno.com |

Turns out I am somewhat in error. What I took to be the MRL unit underload has proven, through viewing of video, to be the HEP generator car trailing the unit. Michael Seitz Missoula MT |
