Post subject:  Preserved President's Car in Cuba - Update Former PRR

On a recent trip to Cuba I stumbled upon a the preserved President's Car in Havana. It seems to be complete and given adequate care. If anyone would like to see higher resolution photos message me and I'll send them along.

Upon doing a little translation it seems this car is former PRR #99 one of three built for the PRR (97, 98, & 99) in/around 1900.

According to the folks in Havana.

Among those hidden charms of Old Havana, right on Churraca Street, the MambĂ Car, a railway car built in the United States in 1900 and taken to Cuba in 1912 to be used as a presidential car, remains motionless.

History tells that on the order of the President of the Pennsylvaina Railroad Company, three special cars were built at the beginning of the 20th century, with provisional identification numbers 97, 98 and 99. The first one for the Pennsylvania Railroad itself, currently on display in a Railway Museum of that city. The second for the representative of the company in Mexico, named Dorado in remembrance of a fact of arms of the war of independence of that country. And the 99 destined to the Cuba Railroad Company.

Imagine its fate, had it been left in the United States?

Great post. I went to Cuba about a year ago. Lots of history there and the railroading is awesome. Sorry I missed this but I will look for it next time I go.

Can you point it out in Google Earth? I can't find it.
Thanks,

Something else to ponder--three cars, all built as office cars for the PRR, sequential numbers, all still exist, and in different countries! What would be the odds of that?
