I am looking for suggestions on a Water treater to add to a EMD 567-B engine. |

I use the 810 in our Alco S2. https://www.epowerrail.com/Products/CategoryCoolant-Chemical-Fluid/SubRust-Inhibitor?Category=Coolant%20Chemical%20Fluid&Sub=Rust%20Inhibitor#1251209-rust-inhibitor |

We use Mainline Granular 101 in our EMD engines. It comes in a granular form in one-pound bags with a neck that fits into the water fill of most engines. It's very easy to use and seems to be effective, I particularly enjoy not dealing with buckets and a funnel. http://www.temple-eng.com/solutions/loc ... inhibitor/ Jason Lamb Everett Railroad |

What about disposal if you have to drain the system? Are there any special requirements? Though I'd rather not, I'm getting involved in locomotive maintenance. |

The stuff that we use is biodegradable and nontoxic. |

I won't need any water treater anytime soon. We put water in the engine this weekend for the first time since we got the locomotive and it leaked out everywhere. All 12 cylinders. |

I sympathize with you. Late winter of 2014, 2 weeks before the start of our easter bunny trains, we found the water glass empty and the crankcase overfilled on our SW9. Drained over 50 gallons of water from the crankcase. The GM darn near had a heart attack because ticket sales were very good and our only power was down. Thanks to two local shortlines loaning me all the specialty tools, we pulled and resealed all 12 packs and only had to cancel the first weekend. Took longer to track down all the seals than do the repairs. Time to upgrade! Good luck in your adventure. E |
