Post subject:  Lehigh Valley Three Bridges Station to be Restored
Well, I have moved from rolling stock to real estate. My wife and I have purchased and plan to restore the former Lehigh Valley train station in Three Bridges NJ.

Currently, the station has no plumbing, which means no well or sewer. It does have electric and had natural gas at one time. She’s a fixer upper but is in relatively good shape for a building built around 1855.

Please PM me if you have any photos of the station during its days as an LV passenger stop. I’d also like to know what colors it may have been painted back in the day.

Seriously, your past history on rolling stock preservation will surely mean an eventual pristine Lehigh Valley depot there in Three Bridges, NJ!

Good luck on what is a building that'll be challenging, but with much potential.

Is the line past the station still there? (The photo dates from only 2016, but sometimes things can change quite rapidly.)

As someone who has also been very active in rolling stock ownership (passenger cars) and preservation for over 30 years, I highly recommend depot ownership. Over 10 years ago, I got the bug to find a depot suitable for a one-man restoration and preservation project in the Western NY area. After looking around extensively for several years, I finally stepped off the curb and was able to purchase the former Erie depot in Cohocton, NY on the former Erie Rochester, NY branch. We are all fans of railroad history in one way or another, and most of us are also fans of old historic buildings and architecture. So I think buying an old depot is a natural evolution of that interest. I have had a lot of fun with my depot, though with being spread thin with my passenger cars, I haven't been able to do much actual restoring of my depot so far. But there's always next year :)

I wonder how many RYPN regulars (who don't own a RR) own their own rolling stock in addition to a depot?

Said line is still very much there and very much active, NS's Lehigh Line.

Check the photo closely as it looks like there is a large stove sitting outside the building on the left hand side. It looks like I will be suppling new plumbing fixtures for the building at some point. Scott is very fortunate to have a very understanding wife. I am sure that I will be visiting the site with Scott. I wish him well and think that this is a great thing to preserve. Now I just have to get a certain collector to part with the station sign.

I ran more trains than I can count past that depot.
I’m very happy that it will be restored.
Now you need to find a way to get 112 posed in front!

On December 3rd, Christmas came early for Three Bridges Station as the PRR E8's are rolling west returning from the Toys for Tots train in upstate NY.

Many Thanks! to Bennett & Eric Levin, John Webb, The Marines!, and all the other volunteers who made this happen. Many a happy child on this Christmas Day 2018 because of their efforts.

And, all the crews at Norfolk Southern and Conrail too.
