Post subject:  Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Book Review

Charles Mutschler's book was reviewed in Briefs October 20. After a visit to Butte in August, I bought the book and I, too, was mightily disappointed in its content. In addition to the reviewer's remarks I'd like to add the following.

The utter lack of maps of the BA&P was shocking. There were maps of the western U. S. and Montana area maps galore, but none of the BA&P proper and certainly none of Butte Hill or the Anaconda smelter lines. Where were the U of Washington Press editors? Saving money on printing?

On the positive side, the book identified some collections of very fine photos of railroading on the BA&P, notably the Phillip C. Johnson collection at the U of Montana, Missoula. And there were others of similar quality.

Yours for more book reviews.
