| Post subject: | Oldest Standard Gauge locomotive preserved? |
Following new research it looks like it might be this one..... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-44482970 They have come to the conclusion that the Killingworth Colliery loco "Billy" is 10 years older than previously thought, which puts it to being built in 1816. |

Well, at least some parts of it...;-) Just being curious which one now keeps the award for being the oldest locomotive remaining mainly in original condition..any idea? Mike |

Mike The problem with the early ones is that they were constantly adapted as new developments came along, so any survivors from that era have generally been altered quite considerably and then, possibly, "backdated" to what people thought they originally looked like. My guess is possibly Locomotion No.1....(1825) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locomotion_No._1 It has undergone some changes, but less than most of that era (though the boiler is an obvious change after the original exploded in 1828!)
