Does anyone know, or know where, I might be able to find out which division a LV Caboose was assigned to, over its lifespan? Specifically, someone asked me if I knew where my caboose - LV 95087 - had run, and I said I had no idea. Now, I'm curious. Can anyone help? I've looked at http://www.anthraciterailroads.org, but no joy there... Thanks in advance! Mike |

This photo, at the main yard/shop location of Sayre PA in March 1976 (days before the end of the LV), makes it likely it was used on the main line and not stuck on some branch for at least part of its life: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPictur ... id=4431352 The photographer, Christopher Smith, took around 40 photos in a few days back then, this album contains at least one other of your caboose: http://rrpicturearchives.net/archiveThu ... ?id=115216 |

Thanks, and thanks for the picture. I looked through the rest of the album, and did not see any more pics of the caboose...lol |

The difficulty finding caboose photos (or any other piece of non-locomotive rolling stock) on the net is that the photographer generally notes engine numbers at the time but not cabooses and almost never freight cars. |

Mike When I was an engineer on the Lehigh Valley RR the cabin cars (they were not called cabooses on the LVRR) that were not restricted to yard locals ran through from one end of the railroad to the other. So....from Oak Island Yard in New Jersey to Buffalo, New York and on N&W trains like the Apollo piggyback trains....they ran through to Bellevue, Ohio along with the LV power. Keith |
