Does this fit the description of an SP flatcar?
I could not locate any identifiable reporting marks.

Southern Oregon Railway Historical Society (which also has the Willamette at the Medford Railroad Park discussed recently) has this SP flat car, but it isn't one of the two models being searched for. I wonder why SLO is looking for such a specific flat car? http://soc-nrhs.org/rrpark/SPflat.htm

I emailed the Curator for SLO and he told me they would prefer, if possible, the car have it's trucks (wheels and wheel and journal bearing frame). |

I've googled F-70-7 and F-70-10 to find photos, but don't find anything that expressly shows what that particular style of car looks like. Is it a riveted steel or cast steel car? There is a RR MofW contract (for UP, mainly) car rebuilder here in town.. they've had all kinds of flats from pre-UP railroads here working on them for the UP.. D&RGW, WP, C&NW, MP and SP cars. Some get rebuilt, some get cut up for scrap. Riveted and cast steel. Not all the cars here have their exact designation stencilled on them.. a few, but not all. I'm a long way from SLO, so that would probably deter any purchases from this place. |

That is ex-Rio Grande #464 en route to Knott's Berry Farm.

I am guessing that they want this flatcar to make an early piggyback display with this item in their collection:  SP Motor Trucking Trailer 3009. https://slorrm.com/collections.html Perhaps they might find a mate for the trailer, as often two of these were on flats. I know of 2 yellow/orange SP trailers, although they are only bodies. One is in the rail yards in Woodland CA, and the other is on private property in Wadsworth, NV. Wadsworth has a few other interesting relics around as well, including a whaleback tender, caboose, RPO, and wood passenger car as well as a CP truss bridge. |

The motel in Dunsmuir CA that uses cabooses for rooms (cannot recall its name) has a flatcar next to the creek, sitting on its trucks in the gravel and looking rather derelict. I think it's SP, but not certain. Brian Smith |
