Not related to this specific locomotive, but do you happen to know if JNR Class 9600 #39685 was saved? She was threatened with scrapping a couple of years ago, but I never heard anything further.

39685 was scrapped around September to October 2016. Saitama City cited the cost of stabilizing the locomotive (50M JPY+, or $450K), as well as the condition of its display plinth (risk of collapse in the event of an earthquake) as deciding factors.
