Gentlemen:
Our museum has just had a 150-ton STEAM powered
wrecking crane (derrick) donated to us. The crane
is located in North Central Illinois and the two
railroads involved with a move to our site in
North Judson, Indiana have advised that they will
NOT move the crane on its friction bearing trucks
but WILL move it providing it has roller bearing
trucks. A little about the crane; it was built
by Bucyrus in 1928, is 26' 10" long, rides on
4 wheel trucks and weighs just under 230,000# (the boom of course extends its length about another 26 feet.) The museum has decided that it can live with the price quoted for the move (a flat fee plus a fee for each idler car needed.) The problem is finding suitable roller bearing trucks to put under the crane. We are currently checking various possibilities but would appreciate any other ideas out there. We realize that there are other problems involved with this move (such as securing the boom in transit, etc.) but without finding a pair of suitable roller bearing trucks, all other problems become moot. Any ideas anyone has would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks.
Les Beckman
Hoosier VAlley RR Museum

Midlandblb@cs.com |
