Post subject:  IR Tamper Steels

Wouldn't you know it.... The tamping steel (bit) broke on our Ingersoll Rand MT3 pneumatic tamper. I can't find any info on it. Does anybody know if the current IR steels fit these old tampers and where is a good place to get them?

Thanks

I bought some brand new from a supplier in Columbia, SC, that fit a pretty old driver I have. If yours is the hex with a collar, there are tons of different bits you can get. They had a huge catalog.

I will see if I can get a name.

The supply house was Richland Industrial.

IR does not have replacements but they did send me useful info. Found a supplier: E-Airtool.com. They had the MT2-12-7/8 steel and the MT6-14 rubber bushing for reasonable prices. The steel is the 7/8" hex with the integral collar. Both also fit the MT4 tampers - there's more of those still around.
