Hi,

Back around 2008-2009 my father took me to a pumpkin patch in Homer Glen, IL. A hayride took us on top of a hill overlooking what appeared to be a racetrack of some sort. Next to it were two Rock Island passenger cars, a caboose, and what appeared to be a depot. I remember somebody told me they came from an unknown museum out west somewhere. They slipped out of my memory for a time but with all the recent commotion going on in Homer Glen with the New Lenox depot relocation, they came to mind.

I went on Google Earth (41.6125834,-87.9383991) to find them, and they are no longer there. Does anyone know what happened to them?

Thanks. What a shame! Has the caboose or depot turned up anywhere?

As far as I know, all this equipment was scrapped back in 2013.
Too bad as at least the RI diner was very nice inside and out.
Here is my post from then:

These cars were caught in a maze of bankruptcies, forecloseures, bad loans, lawsuits, etc. by the owner of the Gas City chain of stores named McEnery. You can do a search and find a long list of articles on this topic - here is a good one:

I know various banks have been working to foreclose on his properties - this has been in the local media. Sounds like one of them finally won in their day in court and cleaned out the property.

I don't recall these cars being offered to anyone before being scrapped. They were not on live rail, and were in a hilly spot not close to any live rail.
