Year ago, in an old Westinghouse book of maintence hints for electric railroading, there was a chart that had the oil levels for the types of motors used in streetcars and interurbans at the time. 1920s-1930s era.

Would anyone have a similar chart to share that shows the oil levels for the traction motors used in electric railroad service common in the 1920s? Westinghouse and GE, although im more looking for Westinghouse types.

The last two pages give the background on the publication - it's an ARM reprint from 1978.

Maybe the IRM folks have a digital version?

Several types of streetcar/interurban traction motors are not covered in the reprints. The rule of thumb, if the specs are not available, is for the maximum level to be no more than 1/2" below the lower edge of the bearing window. This both for armature (motor) bearings and suspension (motor axle), bearings.
