We have started a go fund me page to move some railroad equipment they are all needing to be moved because they have been rescued from various situations. A couple of them we have owned for a few years and two of them are From a recent crisis this summer in Indiana The same mover is going to move all of them which will save us money so any contribution will help towards the relocation efforts. Their facebook page can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/Ironhorse-Rail ... 000149588/ Started in 1963 with the purchase of Traprock locomotive #4 the Ironhorse Central Railroad Museum is celebrating its 50th year. We are located in Chisago City, MN and have been in this location since 1966. Richard and Robert Thompson and Doug Alexander started back in the 1950's collecting railroad memorabilia, taking photos and going on MRA fan trips. They purchased engine #4 in 1963 and had it stored until 1966 when it was moved to the present location. Track construction was started that year and in 1984 the circle was completed and a final spike ceremony was held celebrating the event. A documentary called "Ironhorse" was filmed from 1983 to 1984 and has been featured on television multiple times. We have over a mile of track including a 3/4 mile loop which we traverse two times, giving a 1.5 mile scenic train ride. We are still out in the country so we have plenty of scenic areas for nice photos. Besides a full size train ride, we also have a 1895 Saint Paul And Duluth Railroad depot, a miniature train ride, a petting zoo and 50 acres of nature. We have over 100,000 artifacts so displays are changed out frequently. I have shared the link on various FB pages. J.R. |

Was on their FB page and noticed that there were successful moves of two pieces of equipment from Noblesville up to Chisago City, Minnesota: 1. Delaware & Hudson "miners coach" number 11, a wooden car that was built by Wason back in 1893. 2. Twin Branch electric/battery locomotive number 4. The recent sale of Soo Line 2-8-0 # 2425 to the Mineral Range Railroad has recently been noted here on RyPN. Nice to see that the two pieces of equipment acquired from ITM have found a new home. The D&H car looks in remarkably good condition for its age. Les |

The Thompsons have some really important and unique pieces in the collection at Chisago City, not the least of which is a Northern Pacific superintendent's car, a 40' long business car of the type that were once common for the use of minor officials on the western lines in the last decade of the nineteenth century... this may be the only example preserved anywhere, and as I recall, it is mostly complete and furnished. I think de-accessioning the Soo Line 2-8-0 was just facing the reality that the locomotive is just too big for the physical plant they have (all built from scratch on farmland) and if the engine is mechanically in good shape, it may have a better chance of being restored to operation elsewhere. If anyone is up in the Twin Cities area, the Ironhorse Central is definitely worth a visit. |
