Seeking History/Origin of a Caboose in Colorado

So I am seeking some information on this caboose... When the major flood happened in 2015 this caboose was under water all the way up to the on the deck and inside... Sand was about 2-3ft in places all around it. I drive by it numerous times throughout the week and have always wondered, where did it come from? What railway used it? Year built? Etc.

Looks to be ex-BN and possibly original Spokane Portland and Seattle. There's a caboose of the same type on display at the CB&Q depot in Yates City, IL and it is also ex-BN/SP&S.

A good way start to finding the rest of the story behind the caboose is locating the ACI tag on the car. There are several users on RYPN that can read ACI tags and tell you what the caboose's road number is. From there, a quick Google search will most likely turn up info on how it got there and who owns it.

That's a former BN caboose, which was previously a CB&Q caboose...ahem, "waycar". Interestingly, Bachmann's ubiquitous HO scale plastic caboose is patterned off of this design.

I have some information for you, I posted a picture of the caboose on Narrow Gauge discussion, and Thanks to Ken. He provides the information on what you are looking for.

The caboose was known as a Waycar by the CB&Q Railroad, the class is NE-12, the number on the caboose are long gone according to Ken, but the series of the caboose numbers started with 13525 to 13589.
So the caboose could be any one of those numbers, I am just passing this along, Thanks to Ken and Narrow Gauge Discussion. Pat

Hi Cody, I frequently go by there also, and as far as I can remember its been at that antique store for at least 30 years. The store never opened after the 2013 flood and I keep wondering what might happen to the caboose. The steps are gone, and I guess the next time I go by there, I should peek into the car to see what's inside. Incidentally, the C&S Arkins branch was only a quarter of a mile from there, but I don't think that's how it got there. I should post a query to our local model railroad club and see if someone knows the history, otherwise, that information will be lost in time! I just asked someone who moves cabooses for a living how much it would cost to move to my property and he said, "probably a couple thousand..." Hmm...

Bill, that’s a good idea, I know we have a few people in the club that have been around awhile... You more or less read my mind... I have a friend a few miles from there who will be selling his place in a few years... 17.5 acres and a flat level space behind the house about the size of a caboose. We shall see. Thank you guys for all the replies and information!
