I do have the Alco builders list but I need more information. What railroads were the locomotives built for? Unit Numbers? |

If that is the Alco from Asbury, Mo., then it is former Vermont Railway #6 and was built for the C&O as #5107. Serial number 80631 built 8 - 1953. This is according to a book I have. I saw this sitting on the semi trailer on a recent trip to Colorado. |

Yes that is the same one. Trying to find the history of the S-4 We know the S! was built for a terminal in Omaha and then went to the Hutchinson & Northern. Just trying to verify both Serials numbers. |

This from the keeper of all things ALCO at Mid-Continent Railway Museum: On the S-1 the builders plates were installed on the sides of the cab, one on each side. They were on the lower rear corner, the drill holes for mounting should still be there and any corrosion that took place on the cab behind the plates. Because these were brass, most were stolen (like ours). The serial number may also be the frame number. However, I have not seen any frame numbers on our #7, but I never really looked either. In our case, we knew it was built new for John Morrel Meat Packing. Searching the internet, we found a list of all S-1's built, when we saw Morrel, we were able to verify the s/n and build date. |
