Rumors I have heard claim that she has been in pieces for many years, has a lap seam boiler, some sort of permanent damage, and she is returning home to PA. Does anyone have details?

There is a Trains piece on boiler replacement, maybe 4 years ago?. In that piece, the unfortunate tale is related that White Water Valley actually purchased a new boiler for this engine, but goofed on the dimensions and found it did not fit the chassis. Am I recalling this correctly?

Several years ago it was for sale for around $15K. I was working for CSX at the time as a conductor, had the extra cash and was interested in purchasing the locomotive. My plan was to reassemble it and find a way to return it back to EBT country. I met with the Whitewater Valley people and they showed me that most of the parts were still there, in storage in various buildings and/or boxcars. The new boiler story sounds familiar, but I cannot recall exactly if that is true.

I do wish that someone can do what I had wanted to do. It really should rejoin its sister in the Mount Union enginehouse.

The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum owns EBT #6. They got in trade for the NYC 0-6-0 that sat behind the Roundhouse Museum for many years. When the HRM has the funds and place to put it, they will move #6 to Hagerstown and cosmetically restore it. Personally I'd like to see 6 come down to the park to display beside WM 202 where she'll be safe and get attention. I don't know all the details, but I understand the Whitewater Valley has at least a new cab for the locomotive and many of the parts that aren't currently on it.

That new boiler was built for their other steamer at the time; 2-6-2 #100. That engine has now been sold and moved back to Florida I believe.

I would like to think that I am moderately "cued in" to what's happening to locomotives in "my" region.

The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum is part of the Hagerstown Chapter NRHS. Any such ownership issue has not, as far as I know, been covered in the Hagerstown NRHS newsletter in the past decade or more.

I know for a fact that for years the ownership of NYC 6894 was tied up in a split ownership between at least three parties, one of whom was (in the 1980s) Historic Red Clay Valley, Inc., operator of the Wilmington & Western RR.

I would take the reports by "alcoguy1" with several grains of salt, if only because there are a couple "non sequiters" involved.

That would be an understatement.

I should have put "It's my understanding that..." at the beginning of the post, but these are the facts as I've come to understand them as a volunteer at the Roundhouse Museum. If they're wrong or incomplete I'm sorry, but I am not being deliberately misleading. So much for being "positive minded posters". Since I evidently don't "know all the details" I suggest you contact the Whitewater Valley and find out what the deal is for yourself.

On a more preservationy note, 6 is a relatively lite locomotive(75,000lbs according to steamlocomotive.info) and should easily be able to be moved by truck by whoever the owner is. Anyway, it's nice to see a photo of 6 operational post EBT.

Wow, that's a sad photograph. Is there any particular reason why they chose to obtain NYC 6894 and do a cosmetic restoration on it rather than fix up this engine? And what is the current status of #6, is it still for sale?

Whoa, it sure will take awhile to restore #6... no cab or anything! Picture makes me sick.

I've been told that some sister engines of this particular class of New York Central 0-6-0's used to operate the line out of Connersville that the Whitewater Valley now uses.
