The Great Smoky Mountain RR is announcing on Facebook that they have just acquired a new "First Class passenger rail car" for their operations: https://www.facebook.com/GreatSmokyMoun ... =3&theater The photo shows it is obviously a former CSX business train car, though we can't discern which one yet:  So what's the story here? Is CSX getting rid of more cars than this? Was this acquired from CSX as a purchase? |

Pan Am Railroad just acquired a sleeping car "Mississippi" from CSX - so there has been at least one other recent sale. It will be numbered ST-103 in the PAR/Springfield Terminal business train. |

The first (maybe only) dead match for this car is CSX 994012 "Michigan," built in 1951 by Budd for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a parlor car, numbered PRR 7138. Transferred to Penn Central in 1968 and renumbered PC 7138. Short answer? Yes. Or at least they were. We, (F&N) as an interchange partner, received a listing of business cars available. We had just moved our SPVs so we were out of passenger car funds at the time. |

Converted to an eight-bedroom sleeper in 1984 and renumbered CR 8. went to CSXT. http://www.hebners.net/CR/crOCS.html As posted just now in the Surviving Pullman thread, this car started out as the Penvir, a Plan #2412F 16 section sleeper built by Pullman in April 1917 in Lot #4484, 1 of 40 such sleepers built in that Lot, and 1 of 6 from that Lot assigned to the SP. Rebuilt in November 1932 to the Plan #4027 10 section-restaurant Windsor Castle, 1 of 12 such rebuilds, and 1 of 6 such rebuilds (with Windsor-series names) for service on the Erie. Plan later had suffixes applied, specifically C, E, and G. Sold to the Southern at the Pullman divestiture as their #2458, and like several other sleepers of various types, later rebuilt by the SOU at their various shops to a chair, specifically in 1954 as #1041. Sold by the new NS in 1983 to Conrail, initially as #24, before being rebuilt the following year to an executive sleeper with 8 bedrooms as #8/#800360, later going to CSX in 1999 as their #994008 Mississippi.
